Door leaves up to 2800 mm formed straight enough to close on the first hang — and an honest note up front: the frames are roll-formed, and we do not make those.

What forming equipment does a steel door factory need?

A steel door splits cleanly into two manufacturing problems that require different machines. The leaf is a large flat panel — typically 0.8 to 1.2 mm galvanised or cold-rolled sheet, 2000 to 2400 mm tall, folded on all four sides with a hemmed or returned edge. That is panel bender work, and a D (2500) or D+ (2800) model covers the full leaf height without splitting it.

الـ frame is a constant-section profile, and it is roll-formed. No panel bender, press brake or turret punch produces a roll-formed frame section, and STON CNC does not supply roll-forming lines. Door manufacturers either run a separate frame line from a specialist supplier or buy frames in. We state this at the start because it is the single most common mismatch in steel door enquiries, and discovering it after an order is expensive for everyone.

STON CNC (Qingdao Ston Mechanical Technology Co., Ltd.) is a Chinese original manufacturer of CNC panel benders and turret punch presses, founded in 2006 in Qingdao, China. All equipment described here is built inside STON CNC's own 20,000㎡ factory, from casting and heat treatment through machining, assembly and inspection. Machines carry ISO 9001 quality certification and CE marking under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, and are exported to more than 80 countries. View certifications and patents →

    The parts we build for

Everything in the leaf, and nothing in the frame

The leaf, its skins and its internal reinforcement are all folded sheet. That is where the labour, the straightness problems and the surface scrap in a door factory actually sit.

Three problems specific to steel door leaves

    01

A 2.4 m leaf shows every millimetre of bow

A door that is not straight will not close, and the fault appears on site rather than in your shop. Straightness of roughly 0.2 mm per metre and angle accuracy of roughly ±0.5° per metre across the full leaf height are what keep hanging a first-time operation instead of a shimming exercise.

    02

Frames and leaves are different industries

Door factories routinely try to buy one machine for both. A roll-formed frame section and a folded leaf have almost nothing in common as manufacturing problems. Treating them as one purchase is how projects end up with a machine that makes half the product.

    03

Louvres, vision panels and hinge holes multiply variants

One door range becomes dozens of leaf variants once glazing, louvres and hardware positions are combined. Turret punching produces louvre blades, vision cut-outs, hinge and lock preparations from a program, so a new variant is a drawing rather than a tooling order.

    Recommended configuration

Three ways to build the leaf cell, by leaf height and volume

Machine length is chosen by your tallest leaf. Splitting a 2400 mm leaf into two bends to fit a shorter machine creates a joint that has to be hidden, which defeats the purpose.

    Entry cell

Standard height leaves up to 2000 mm
    • Panel bender C (2000), welded or cast frame
    • 0.8–1.2 mm galvanised at full bend length
    • Fiber laser or turret punch blanking
    • Existing press brake for hinge reinforcement
    • Custom knives for edge return profiles
    Most door manufacturers

    Full-height leaf cell

Leaves to 2400 mm and above, mixed ranges
    • Panel bender D (2500) or D+ (2800), cast-iron frame
    • Full leaf height in one clamping, no split bends
    • Turret punch for louvres, vision cut-outs and hardware prep
    • Truss loading with vacuum pick-up on coated leaves
    • Flexible edge folding machine for hemmed returns
    • Press brake alongside for reinforcement plates

    Integrated line

Volume production of standardised door ranges
    • Coil or sheet blanking with intelligent nesting
    • Punching, forming and bending under one control system
    • Automatic loading, positioning and stacking
    • Optional robot welding for stiffener and edge assembly
    • Process interlock and data traceability
    • Layout drawn against your existing building

What these machines can and cannot form

The frame row is the important one on this page. Everything else about door leaves sits comfortably inside the forming window.

    Right fit

Door leaves, skins, louvre panels and kick plates in 0.8–1.2 mm, up to 2800 mm, folded on all four sides with hemmed or returned edges. This is core panel bender work.

    Wrong fit

Door frames, jambs, stiles and any constant-section profile. These are roll-formed products from a separate process and supplier, and no machine on this page produces them.

    Keep a press brake

Hinge reinforcement plates, lock boxes, threshold parts, and heavy gauge hardware mounts. One press brake alongside the leaf cell covers all of it.

Standards this equipment is built and guarded to

Risk assessment follows EN ISO 12100; safety-related control functions such as light-curtain interruption and emergency stop are specified to EN ISO 13849-1. Hydraulic press brakes supplied into the EU are built against EN 12622. Machines placed on the EU market carry CE marking under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC with the accompanying technical file. Quality management is certified to ISO 9001, and machined structural tolerances follow ISO 2768. For the finished doorset, EN 1634-1 covers fire resistance testing and EN 16034 covers fire resisting and smoke control characteristics of pedestrian doorsets. These apply to your tested assembly, not to the forming machine — what the equipment contributes is the dimensional consistency the tested configuration depends on being reproduced in production.

On the machines this means fully enclosed rear fencing, protective covers on all protruding moving parts, laser guarding that halts motion when the protected zone is broken, over-tonnage protection on turret punch presses, and grating-ruler offset-load detection on panel benders.

    Choosing the process

Panel bender, press brake or roll forming for door production?

A door factory needs all three processes. What matters is knowing which one each part belongs to before buying anything.

Questions we get from door manufacturers

    Frequently asked questions

Can you supply a machine that makes door frames?
No. Door frames, jambs and stiles are constant-section roll-formed profiles. Roll forming is a different process from panel bending, press braking and punching, and STON CNC does not supply roll-forming lines. What we equip is the leaf side of a door factory — leaves, skins, louvre panels, kick plates and internal stiffeners. If frames are the larger part of your business, we will tell you on the first call rather than after an order.
Which model do we need for a 2400 mm door leaf?
Model D covers 2500 × 1500 mm and model D+ covers 2800 × 1500 mm, both with cast-iron frames. Choose by your tallest leaf rather than your average. Splitting a tall leaf into two bends to fit a shorter machine creates a joint that has to be concealed, and the saving disappears into finishing labour.
How straight will a full-height leaf be?
Straightness is approximately 0.2 mm per metre and angle accuracy approximately ±0.5° per metre, with dimensional accuracy around ±0.1 mm per metre. On a 2.4 m leaf, that is what determines whether the door hangs and closes first time or needs shimming on site. Grating-ruler offset-load detection monitors alignment through the bend.
Can it produce hemmed leaf edges?
Yes, on a flexible edge folding machine, which performs dead edge (hemming), arc bending and offset alongside positive and negative bending, with a minimum bending height of 4 mm. Many door factories run a panel bender for the leaf body and a folding machine for the hemmed perimeter.
Does the equipment help us meet EN 1634-1 fire testing?
EN 1634-1 and EN 16034 apply to your tested doorset assembly, not to the forming machine. What the equipment contributes is production consistency — a fire test certifies a specific configuration, and the value of closed-loop angle control and repeatable forming is that production doors reproduce the tested geometry batch after batch. Core material, seals and hardware remain your specification.
How much does a door leaf forming cell cost?
There is no list price, because the cell is configured to your leaf sizes and variants. Five factors move the figure most: forming length (a D+ 2800 mm machine costs materially more than a C 2000 mm), frame type (cast iron for heavier gauge at full length), whether a turret punch is included for louvres and hardware preparation, automation level (manual load, truss loading, or a full cell with stacking), and the tooling package for your edge return profiles. A single bender and a full integrated line differ by roughly an order of magnitude. Send your tallest leaf drawing and we return a configured quotation within 24 hours.
Can the cell run unattended on a night shift?
Yes, with truss or robotic loading and automatic stacking. On tall leaves this is often the first justification, because the two-person lift is both a labour cost and the main source of coated-surface damage. Fully enclosed fencing and laser guarding to EN ISO 13849-1 are specified at order stage.
